WILLIAM FOSTER
PhD Student - University of Manchester
Project Title: Understanding the influence of the composition and microstructure of Cr-based PVD coatings on the performance of coated claddings.
William Foster graduated from Loughborough University in 2022 with a BEng in Materials Science and Engineering.
Prior to starting his PhD, he gained experience working in an R&D surface analysis laboratory at NSG Group, where he specialized in characterizing thin films and surface contaminations on glass.
His PhD project focuses on investigating how chromium deposition parameters affect the microstructure, mechanical properties, and irradiation performance of chromium-coated claddings. He utilizes advanced techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to conduct this research.
