Jack Haley's work focuses on understanding the damage caused in metals and alloys by irradiation with high-energy particles. In nuclear fusion and fission, eutrons are the primary irradiating species but heavy ion and protons are experimentally attractive substitutes with which to study the effects.

Jack uses transmission electron microscopy methods to characterise and quantify the damage produced, and draw comparisons between irradiating particles.

As his work at CCFE continues to focus on TEM of nuclear materials, Jack retains a keen interest in MIDAS, and often engages with the community.
